Latest reader gallery call

We are currently looking for your original page designs for a Reader Gallery on the following themes:

Babies
Who can resist big eyes, chubby cheeks and tiny fingers and toes? We certainly can’t, so send us your baby layouts for us to coo over!

Polka dots
Dots and spots have to be one of the most timeless design motifs – and they work wonderfully on scrapbook pages. Show us what you do with them.

Email a digital image (please make sure they are not huge files) of your layout to me at our dedicated address scrapbook.gallery@futurenet.com. Remember to add your choice of theme to the subject line. All we ask is that your layouts are your own work and that you haven't submitted them to any other magazine. ScrapBook inspirations does not accept layouts that have been published elsewhere, that are being considered for publication or have been entered in any competitions.

Please include the following details with your submissions:

About you
Your name and address
A daytime phone number and email address

About your layout
Title of your layout (a few words to describe the story behind the photos and what inspired your design)
Tell us about the techniques you used and your favourite products
What supplies you used and where you got them from

About your hobby
How long you've been scrapping and what inspired you to get started.
Have you ever had any of your work published before?
What's your favourite product?

See there's nothing to it and you've got plenty of time as the closing date for entries is 6 February 2008. You'll receive an email from Cheryl if we'd like to feature your layout.

What kind of creative are you?

Here's a fun way to waste five minutes, take the What kind of creative are you? quiz on Youniverse.

I am 'Eyes wide open' and I have, among other things, a great appreciation for creativity in all its forms and a magpie eye for beauty! What are you?

Newsletter sign-up

If you're very eagle-eyed you may have spotted a new button that's appeared on this blog lately. Over there on the left is a sign-up for our new email newsletter. You just need to add your name and email address and answer a couple of questions and you'll be all signed up.

But what, you may be asking, will I get?

At the moment you won't get anything! We're still working on the newsletter to make sure we put together something that will be useful to you and that you won't just delete when it lands in your inbox! We plan to send them out once a month just before an issue goes on sale so it'll act as a reminder to head to the shops. We've got some fun ideas lined up, but we'd also love to hear from you! Is there anything you'd love to see in a ScrapBook inspirations newsletter? Thanks!

Gorgeousness!

Yulia Brodskaya makes the most amazing quilled designs I've ever seen. She did artwork for an article in the Guardian's G2 at Christmas and I was totally smitten! You can see more of her amazing work on her website, which is where these images are from. Enjoy!

Paris Hilton to launch a craft range!

This has to be the strangest news I've heard in a while, but Paris Hilton is launching a range of craft products called the Creativity Collection. The range will be released at the upcoming Craft & Hobby trade show in America. According to their website it features "A multi-faceted line of fashion crafting kits from some of the most popular craft segments including scrapbooking, jewelry making and fabric embellishment."

Our roving reporter Shimelle is going access all areas at the show and is hoping to snap a pic of Paris, although she'll only be at the show for an hour. I wonder what Paris' paper lines will look like? Any suggestions?

Edited to add this link to her website!

Julie's book of quotes

This little book was tucked away on page 84 of the January issue - isn't it gorgeous? It was made by Julie Kirk using clothing tags and scraps of ribbon, all bound together with a book ring. Each page features a quote that Julie loves. I absolutely love it, so I was thrilled when Julie posted more photos and details on her blog, Notes on paper. The lovely yellow details are just the thing to brighten up this dark afternoon.

Blog love from the February issue of Scrapbook Inspirations

Hello weblets! Every month I write a column in the Inspirations section of the magazine talking about some of the (many) blogs I like, or ones that have been recommended to me. I love to hear about your favourites too, so drop me a line if you'd like me to visit. Here are the blogs from the February issue:

* It’s one of Creative Ed. Cara Medus’ favourite websites: Inspire Me Thursday (www.inspiremethursday.com). Every week Melanie Komisarski features a new creative challenge, including resources to get you feeling inspired, and to participate all you have to do is leave a comment.

* Sheffield-based design duo Mike and Katie, aka TADO, make some of the coolest artwork around, including these stickers. Take a look at their website tado.co.uk – if you’re into pandas and rainbows you’ll love it!

* Printable Paper is a useful (and free) resource for fans of lined and grid patterned paper. The website (www.printablepaper.net) has a huge selection of pre-made designs, including a special section for A4 format, that you can download and print out onto paper or cardstock.

* Rhonna Farrer’s whimsical and elegant designs can be found on a huge range of scrapbooking products – everything from patterned papers to digital elements. Take a peek into Rhonna’s world at rhonnadesigns.com where you’ll find her blog, a gallery and links to her products.

* Find hidden letters in your photos: letterperspectives.com
